Employee Spotlight John Howell

With over 7 years of experience as an AV designer and an additional 13 years in programming, John brings a deep understanding of both the technical and creative sides of audiovisual projects. That's why we are excited for you to learn more about him! His skills and personal touches make him a fascinating individual, showcasing the human side behind the technological advancements in the AV industry. Let’s get started!

What drew you to start working with Vista Technologies?

Initially, I started as a Classroom Support Technician at the University of Notre Dame. This is where I came across installations by Vista Technologies. After researching more about the company and discovering their commitment to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction, it became clear to me that Vista Technologies was the ideal place for me to further my career.

Can you briefly describe your role and responsibilities as an AV Designer and Programmer?

As an AV (audiovisual) Designer and Programmer, my responsibilities encompass the design and implementation of audiovisual systems.

In the design aspect, my duties include selecting the appropriate technology and equipment according to project requirements. I choose projectors, microphones, control systems, and other necessary audiovisual components with a focus on user-friendliness.

On the programming side, I develop and configure code for control systems, design custom interfaces, and troubleshoot to ensure the efficient operation of AV equipment.

Overall, my role is to seamlessly integrate technical expertise with creative design, ensuring that the AV systems are both effective and intuitive for users.

What is your favorite aspect of working at Vista Technologies?

Working at Vista Technologies has deepened my appreciation for audiovisual work, particularly because of the opportunity to tackle diverse and innovative projects. This environment allows me to continuously learn and apply new technologies, making every project a unique challenge that broadens my expertise and contributes to the evolution of audiovisual solutions.

Can you share a memorable project or accomplishment you have achieved in your role?

I’d highlight the Center for Hospice Care project. It was unique because it integrated nearly all of our offerings—controlling lights, shades, audio, displays, and door entry notifications. The challenge was to ensure everything worked seamlessly from a central panel, providing both ease of use and comprehensive building control.

Outside of work, what are some hobbies or interests that you enjoy pursuing?

Spending time with my family and friends. When I have time, playing video games has always been a go-to hobby for myself.

Are there any interesting facts that you’d like to share about yourself?

Honestly, I’m a normal guy! However, some may find this interesting: I have never had an issue plugging the USB-A cable.
